Extension Cord Redesign and Render Project

Picture
Picture
The objective was to redesign an extension cord in the style of a particular brand. This extension chord was given to the class as the starting point. The brand I was given was Design Partners, Bray, who design for Logitech.

Below is the mood board I created for the project using my research, showing the style I would have to imitate for my project. Their designs mostly featured sleek designs for comfort, especially in black or grey with long coloured lights along some edges. Smooth rounded plains and edges with great care taken for ergonomics.

I tried out several different designs on paper, before arriving at my final design.

It features smooth curved edges and surfaces. Some edges are lined with lights (shown in the below pictures in white). It is made with different grey plastics, with a comfort grip for the turn handle and the hand grip (the indented thumb shape in the front and side views). Rubber feet for stability (shown in bottom view). There is a hand grip for ergonomics - the thumb & side of the hand fit snugly into the side of the extension chord and there is a specially indented space at the bottom for the other four fingers.

The previous features of the extension chord remain: the easy reel-in button, turn handle, four sockets and the holes that allow access to the wiring - now redesigned to be bigger for easier access and shaped to fit the new design to look better.

Photo Manipulations

Picture
The above photo is from a collection of photos I had to Photoshop for a Hotel. My task was to make each room look like a pencil drawing, and then manipulate a series of artworks into the rooms to show how they would look if placed there.

Picture
The statue photos (above and below) were for an art gallery. I was asked to replace the colourful tiled floors with more neutral concrete floors, so as to not distract from the statues themselves.
